BIRMINGHAM, Alabama - A Clay County deputy sheriff is
recovering after surgeons reattached his right hand, which was cut
off by an axe-wielding man during an arrest.
Deputies shot and killed the unidentified man after the Friday
night attack.
Clay County Sheriff's Capt. Steve Cotney says deputies were
trying to serve an arrest warrant on a man on Sawmill Road - off
Alabama 79 near the intersection with Alabama 149 - when the
incident took place between 10 p.m. and 11 p.m.
Police say during the attempt to arrest the man, the man picked
up a bush axe used for chopping down brush and started swinging it,
severing the deputy's hand.
It was reattached at UAB Hospital. Police would not identify the
deputy, who has been with the county department about three years.

I have another question, freedomtofascismcom. I know you have said in the past that you were in LE and got out of it? Why and when? These guys and girls are very highly trained and are for the most part, great cops-regardless of what your past work experience,or lack of was. It is very frustrating to hear you condemn LE for your shortcomings.I can only surmise that you did not leave on good terms. These guys and gals are excellent cops and good citizens, who WANT to protect and serve all,but also want to make it home alive to their families.

I’m just not getting the rationality of your argument. With the theories that you presented, basically saying that the deputy “got what he deserved,” then any cop who is injured in the line of duty-gets what he deserves. Sorry, I’ve lost friends in the line of duty, and they definitely did NOT deserve it. Do you feel the same about the military? After all, they are protecting and serving our country. They have to use force. Secondly,it sounds as if you are proposing a self made militia. If the police aren’t there to protect and serve, then how about all the folks they get off the street that are a danger to society. Take them out on our own? Sorry, I am no match for a 300# pound, doped up, UZI toting thug.

I disagree about the training. All the officers I know have been through very stringent training, and have continuing education type classes that they must attend at least yearly. Sometimes more often,if there is a new procedure or protocol.

how long after you head injury did you retire?

I’m not trying to tick anyone off. That is not my reason for posting. I just happend to be able to think for myself despite years of being in government indoctrineation centers known as the public school system. Never take any answers to questions at face value, especially if given by your government. We cannot derrive any porgnant sense of security from that which comes from within us, this is why we immitate rather than originate, or create. We are subject to our peers and their acceptance of us. We know ourselves cheifly by hear say, what others say that we are. Just a bunch of mimmics largely. Think about it.

certainly we don’t have the totality of the circumstances in this report, yet as a former deputy I know well the mentality and the training that these guys go through, and it ain’t much. They know very little about the law and this is by design. Cops are , for the most part just govt muscle to extract money from the public. They are a reactionary force and have no duty to protect , or serve, and I have the supreme court citation to prove it. Contractually speaking. This has never been overturned, even though the CONstitution says otherwise. You want protection and service , well better look to doing for self. 3 sides to every story, and the hardest side to extract is the truth, as it pisses everyone off. The truth is addressed in three ways universally, first, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Lastly, it becomes self evident, provided you live through the first two

Is saying the police getting his hand cut off is “getting what he deserved” crossing the line just a little? Sound like something one sick puppy would say. I’m not sure you can, depends on just what is going on. I thought going to as gun range to make an arrest was not smart but to say they got what they dissevered? Sounds like your ready for a baker act.

I’m not sure from your comment, who you are high-fiving. The officer or the perp. If he was shot by other deputies, that tells me there was back up there, otherwise, this particular deputy could have just as easily been decapitated. From the limited info in this article,it is,as usual impossible to tell what actions are taken prior to any force being used. I know locally, the departments have a protocol as to when force is used, and the least amount is used first-unless there is a threat on your, your partners,or a civilians life. I would say swinging an axe qualifies as a threat on ones life-especially when it can also be THROWN at someone.I’m giving kudos to the cops.

Hmm? I wonder what the warrant was for. High five deputy dingdong. GOT PEPPER SPRAY? See there was a swat deputy that was shotgunned in the face a year or so ago due in part to the AMPing up mind set of let’s go get that sukka! The guy in that case told friends and family who tried to have him Baker Acted twice that if anyone tried to enter his CASTLE he’d shoot ‘em in the face. Well he met his end of the bargin and was killed in the shootout, however what should take place is slowing things down. If they knew this guy was there they only needed to wait him out and no one would have their hand chopped off. Way too much testosterone. I gotta badge and a gun and willing to use it NOW mind set, is a very poor tactical approach. Got what he deserved. High five!

Well, I’m heading down a southern trail; I’m going chicken huntin’
Chopping redneck chicken necks I ain’t saying nothing
To the hillbilly stuck my barrel in his eye
Boomshacka boomshacka hair jumps in the sky

I’m sorry.
