A man is in critical condition with burns to 50 percent of his body after Police say he was cooking meth in his disabled father's kitchen. It happened early Tuesday morning at the Pine Trace Apartment Complex for people who are physically challenged. Mobile Police say 27-year-old Thomas Edwards was cooking the meth when it exploded, blowing the windows out and part of the roof off. When firefighters arrived, Edwards was already on his way to the hospital, but his father was inside, "they made entry and noticed that the ceiling had collapsed inside of the structure itself and then they found a disabled man in the back, in the bedroom, fortunately, he was in an area where nothing happened, you know, he was protected more or less," said Mobile Fire-Rescue Spokesman, Steve Huffman. The CEO of the non-profit group Volunteers of America Southeast says they own and manage the Pine Trace Apartment complex. He says they regret this happened, and they plan to fix the apartment.

I am sorry for your loss.  I am sure you were close with your brother in law.  It is great that there is an oppportunity for people that have a physicial disability to live a life that is directed for them and their needs.  I am not against that at all by any means.  But when you drop that kind of community into a neighborhood then the value of homes goes down, especially those that are across the street from the facility.  If you don’t believe me then ask a real estate agent.  I am not against the physically challenged facility at all but at the cost of my property value, I am!  You put the facility in your neighborhood, let you property value go down, and then give me a call.  My house has lost 30K property value b/c of this situation.  You can cry to everyone else but when it is your money in the tank you will be telling a different story.  I will sell the county 40 acres half price to make a physically impaired community to get it out of my neighborhood so my house will retain its value.  Sorry your family member died but its not my problem!  My investment, property value, is my problem and people like you that think that is is okay to drop something like that into my neighborhood, drop my property value, and raise my taxes make me want to puke!  Throw that stuff into your neighborhood, drop your value, try to resell, and then come back at me.  If you don’t like it then go hug a tree and leave the rest of us alone because we could care less!!!

I’m glad no one else was hurt except for Thomas Edwards.  I guess we don’t have to worry about him causing problems at Pine Trace anymore.
Thank Goodness, the criminal got burned and not innocent people.

Attention Brian 1532!

My brother in law who was paralized lived in Pine Trace Appartments.  Before you give everyone in town the wrong idea about the apartments I would like to fill you in on a couple of things.  First off, the people that live there are disabled.  My brother in law broke his back when he was 19 and THANK GOD BESS RICH put the apartment complex in a nice neighborhood.  It is unfortunate that Thomas Edwards was there cooking meth.  I wish that something could be done to keep scum bags like him away from defenseless disabled peoples homes.  He stole from my brother in law.  My brother in law died June 3rd.  He died from natural causes.  My husband had to spend the night at my brother in laws apartment the night that he found him dead in his apartment so that Thomas Edwards wouldn’t break in and steal everything.  I loved and miss my brother in law dearly.  I just wish that something could be done to keep people like Thomas Edwards out of apartments like Pine Trace. Pine Trace is there to help people and it would be a good place if Bess Rich could do something to improve security and make sure that who lives there is supposed to be there.  They have rules but unfortunately they aren’t inforced. The tennants there can only do so much on their own.  If you have any ideas please share them. My brother in law had good friends that lived in the neighborhood, as well as the apartments.

This is really going to help the resale value of our homes in Pinehurst.  Also, I would like to thank Bess Rich for allowing that place to be built in our neighborhood, which really ups the resale value too.  Put places like that in your own neighborhood Bess!!!!!
