MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - An Associated Press survey of Alabama
legislators finds strong support for removing the state sales tax
on groceries, but sharp division over how to do it.
The House Democratic Caucus has made removal of the grocery tax
a priority for the legislative session beginning Feb. 3.
An AP survey found that 63 percent of House members responding
and 70 percent of senators responding favored one of two plans to
eliminate the 4 percent grocery tax. The rest of the Legislature
was either undecided or didn't like either plan.
One plan would wipe out the tax and replace the lost revenue by
repealing Alabama's state income tax deduction for federal income
taxes paid. The other that would phase out 1 percent of the tax
each year in which revenue for public education grows at least 3
percent.
Support was split fairly evenly between the two plans.

you are right carl, they will make it up somewhere else. they will have to because of the cost of groceries now is unreal. with the growing unemployment rate, people on food stamps. they will have to find something else. i would not be surprised if it was a gas tax.

If they were to drop the 4 percent grocery tax they would just raise it up 8 percent some where else.Beware of Greeks bearing gifts and politician that say they are gonna give you some of your money back.Hey I’m a sage and didn’t even know it.LOL

Nope, not offended at all. For one, I have a job and pay taxes, and for two, I don’t gamble.
Your statement don’t make much sense to me.
I just asked how you came to the conclusion that all gamblers were unemployed. I have been in Casinos when I was younger, and from what I recall, looked like most whom I saw looked like normal working citizens. However, if you observation and theory is correct, they should not legalize it. Why would we want to cater to the unemployed people of the state.

LOOK AT WHAT I SAID!!!!!!  I believe it says NON-WORKERS, meaning non tax payers. Are you offended?

NO I AM SAYING THAT THE NON TAX PAYERS ARE!!!IF YOU LEGALIZE GAMBLING THE STATE GETS THEIR MONEY TOO!

stnick, are yo trying to say all gamblers are drug dealers, prostitutes, and government workers?
On what basis did you come to this conclusion?

Georgia has the lottery and has no problem with not taxing food products at all. I dont know when Alabama is going to grow up and realize, that when you tax the gamblers of the state, you are getting money from non-workers. EXAMPLE- drug dealors, prostitutes, and goverment workers. lol.
