Seven exotic birds are orphaned after their owner dies and now they need good homes. The family kept two of the birds but couldn't handle the rest.

The cockatoos and parrots were first brought to the Mobile County Animal Shelter. But since the shelter only handles dogs and cats, they started looking for some experts to help.

On Tuesday, an exotic animal rescue called Chaos and Critters showed in to help. Mark Jones says some of the birds can live to be 80 years old, outliving their owners.

The birds aren't cheap either. Some of the species can be worth as much as 2000 dollars.

The sad news about the exotics is that they can get severely depressed without love and will start hurting themselves. "They will actually mutilate themselves out of boredom and depression. So, they'll pluck their feathers out, bite their toes off."

Here's a list of the types of birds that were orphaned.

2 White Fronted Amazons
3 Sulfur-Crested Cockatoos,
1 Umbrella Cockatoo
1 male Eclectus

The birds will be checked out by a doctor on Wednesday morning and then the adoption process begins. If you are interested in adoption, call Chaos and Critters at (251) 662-7847 or you can go to their website by clicking here. www.chaosandcritters.org
