Robertsdale Mayor Charles Murphy is one of four Alabama mayors supporting the "T. Boone Pickens Plan." "I had been listening to Mr. Pickens on television and have read some articles about his proposal and I thought it was something I could support," says Murphy.
The Texas oil tycoon has launched a multi-million dollar advertising campaigng to push his plan. Pickens wants to harness wind power to produce electricity and create other energy sources. Pickens believes his plan would help free the U-S of dependence on foreign oil.
"Wind is a very viable alternative for electrical power," says Murphy. Murphy signed the written pledge to the Pickens Plan earlier this month. Mayor Murphy's pledge has sparked interest at the local diner.
"It'd help us a lot," says Debra Lloyd who owns D.J.'s Diner in Robertsdale. "Us relying on other countries, we need to start helping ourselves."
Leon Bundy drives a truck for a living. Bundy says new windmills and turbines are already being built on farms and pastures.
"I drive all over the country, it's getting more and more popular. We actually discussed making a joke about it the other day about putting one on our land," says Bundy.
So far, more than 165 mayors across the U-S have signed a pledge supporting the Pickens Plan. For more information, go to tboonepickens.com
