Ty Storm isn't your typical teenager. Storm has kept his eye on the economy and with graduation quickly approaching, the Fairhope High School senior realized he needed an edge over his classmates. Storm signed up for Faulkner State Community College's new "Career Tech Dual Enrollment" program and will receive both his high school diploma and a college certificate from Faulkner when he graduates in May.
"I'm proud of myself, I applied myself and put effort into it and took advantage of opportunities so I'm already halfway ahead," says Storm. "I never expected something like this."
Storm attends class like any other student in the morning then heads to the vo-tech center in the afternoon to earn his college credit in welding.
"It pays good," says Storm. "America needs good welders right now."
"The students are getting free tuition along with the training they're getting here and our economy and our businesses get the trained workers," says Cale Ebert with Faulkner State Community College.
Storm will be the only student in the region walking with both his senior class and with college classmates this May.
