The American Legion in Fairhope erupted in cries of joy, smiles and laughter Tuesday night when CBS news officially declared Barack Obama the winner in the 2008 Presidential Election. Hundreds of Obama supporters gathered at the social hall after the polls closed for a "watch party" sponsored by the Eastern Shore Democrats.

Baldwin County Democratic Party chairman James Sears told News 5 Obama's victory will open new doors for Democrats across Alabama and in Baldwin County. Sears says Democrats have never had a strong voice in Baldwin County, but says Obama's win will strengthen his party for years to come.

James Sears maybe you can go to Washington and get him to bring the KC- to Mobile but as we all know he will give it to Boeing and workers in Chicago that is why they waited for a new President…

dont be so sure of that. orama lost big time in the state of alabama.  i guess some people looked past his color when voting. concentrated on real issues.

Bankrupting coal: “What I’ve said is that we would put a cap and trade system in place that is as aggressive, if not more aggressive, than anybody else’s out there. ... So if somebody wants to build a coal-powered plant, they can; it’s just that it will bankrupt them because they’re going to be charged a huge sum for all that greenhouse gas that’s being emitted.”—Barack Obama in January in an interview with the San Francisco Chronicle—the Chronicle spiked this part of the interview ++ “Under my plan of a cap and trade system, electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket. Even regardless of what I say about whether coal is good or bad. Because I’m capping greenhouse gases, coal power plants, you know, natural gas, you name it—whatever the plants were, whatever the industry was, uh, they would have to retrofit their operations. That will cost money. They will pass that money on to consumers.”—Barack Obama in the same interview
