A little girl in a tiny Mississippi community has a really big heart and opened it up after watching a story on News 5.

8-year old Mamie Cupit lives in Wade, that's near Moss Point.

She watched our story last Friday about Ruby Eldridge. "Miss Ruby" is the pastor in Eight Mile who lost her house and car in a fire.

Mamie couldn't stop thinking about Miss Ruby and decided to help raise some money to help. It didn't take her long to raise hundreds of dollars for the pastor. Mamie says once she set her mind to it, it was pretty easy.

She considered a lemonade stand and selling cookies but found the help after simply asking at church. "Well, I didn't do any of the lemonade or smoothies or pies and cakes. We talked about it in church and they decided to do it and we made 300 dollars."

The congregation at Caswell Springs United Methodist Church donated the money for Mamie to give to Miss Ruby.

Miss Ruby was touched when we showed up with the check and letter from little Mamie. She said she prayed about getting help and her prayer was answered by an eight year old girl.

If you would like to watch the story that inspired Mamie, this is the link. Helping Miss Ruby (original story)

BamaBob, my thoughts exactly…

i wish we could hear more stories like this. what a sweet young lady!! her parents should be so proud!!

We finally got the technical difficulties figured out. You can now view the entire story.

Thanks
Tiffany

Amen, jakeleg. It can be taught in church, but unless it is reinforced and lived out at home, I don’t think they will connect the dots-especially at such a young age. You and your wife should be very proud of her, and give yourself a pat on the back, for a job well done! I wish there were more stories like this…

jakeleg - You should be very proud of that daughter of yours.

Thanks much…. I’m Mamie’s father, Norman Cupit.
All I can offer is ‘take those children to church’... you’d be amazed at what can happen.

That was a very sweet story!

Why was the woman so camera shy?  Might want to look into that one a little more.

What a thoughtful child. I am sure her parents are very proud their little girl feels inspired to help others.

Bless that child’s heart. THIS is our future! May we all teach our kids to be so giving of themselves.
