BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - The mother of a 43-year-old man who died
after being zapped by police with a stun gun has filed a wrongful
death lawsuit in Jefferson County Circuit Court.
Corene Dixon claims that officers wrongfully jolted Willie Maye
multiple times with a Taser, sprayed him with Mace and beat him on
June 5, 2008, while he was not breaking any laws. The suit filed
Wednesday seeks compensatory and punitive damages.
Dixon named as defendants seven police officers, three fire and
rescue employees, the city and Police Chief A.C. Roper. A city
spokeswoman declined to comment because they had not been served
with the lawsuit.
Police have said Maye fought with officers after he left the
vehicle he was in and ran from them while police were conducting
checkpoints.

If he was told to stay against the wall then absolutly yes he was being defiant. He was protesting his arrest from the beginning according to what I read and heard on the video. He continued to do this throughout his ordeal. Had he remained calm I highly doubt the officers would have lost their cool. Did he deserve to be murdered? Absolutly not. And I think the cops got away with it based on the plea bargains. Again, he knew he wasn’t guilty but our law states that we have to obey the commands of law enforcement whether we agree with them or not. Of course there will be situations where one will not and no one can predict the outcome. Too bad these thug cops didn’t get the same punshment as Jesse though.

Jessie was picked up for suspicion of DUI and drug use.  His toxicology reports show neither case was true.

You call him defiant for moving close to the window in order to hear the woman and protest his innocence?  Does that deserve the death penalty?

That is a very odd and presumptive argument you keep making.  For some strange reason you do not think anyone else commenting on this website has the ability to discern between fact and fiction.  You also have this rather narcissistic view that only you have the ability to read more than one newspaper or take advantage of Google.

Do you think that everyone that does not agree with you just fell off a turnip truck?  Do you think we are all stupid and dropped out of school after that first year?  Isn’t that rather short-sighted and extremely narrow-minded?

What would it do to your argument, if you were to learn that some of us are very well educated. Have had many life experiences.  And, managed to cross many professional boundaries over our numerous years?

Would that cause you to use those brain cells and think out of the box?  Or, would that cause you to label us “seniors” and recommend our annihilation via taser guns?

Was it ever told what Jesse was originally arrested for? All I saw was misdemeanors. I will say that the cops should have kept their cool but jesse gets a bit of the blame for being defiant. As many have argued right here on this site the cops are not the judge nor the jury and shouldn’t be the executioner. He was arrested and should have waited for hs day in court to profess his innocence. Maybe if he had done that he would be alive today. As for the cops that beat him, it would be nice to see them on youtube screaming ” Don’t taze me bro” as they are taking their last breath.

By all means find it and view it,talk about giving up freedom these guys took this young mans life in a brutal way. And yes i voted republican straight ticket.

I must have missed the link BB posted for that video.

You are giving your freedoms away because you are taking the small bit that media reports as FACT,end of story. You are giving your freedoms away, because you are not questioning all angles, but easily going along with what the media wants you to see-a sensational headline. And you voted for who?

Petty speeding is one thing…5 miles above the speed limit, most people are going to get off with a warning. Above that, doubtful. I’ve been stopped and given a ticket and paid it. Although, I will say, I would like to know where my money went-it surely wasn’t for the betterment of the area I got it in.lol

I would ask you to ask your cop friend if they saw any of the videos we have all been vehemently arguing about, and their take, what they would do. Make sure they see the videos and know the cases-not just your version of them,OK? I can guarantee you that every last one of them will say their job is to protect and serve all, and to get home to their families at the end of a shift. Get back with me when you have done that. Same for anyone else.

I have said before, and I will say again-go ahead, question what civil servants do. But take it to the next level of questioning ALL wrongs,no matter who does it. I will say again, not all LE officers do the right thing 100% of the time, but they are a minority-not the majority. No one does right all the time, right? I will also say again, that there is usually way more to a story than what is reported. I can think of several instances of that, which is why I am insistent on trying to bring out other scenarios, that most people wouldn’t or couldn’t think about. Do I know everything about LE,no. I do think being a LE wife, plus dealing with the community in my job gives me a little better look at reality, true life, than what you see here.

smason - take the time to look at that Mississippi video.  The man was in the booking area of the jail, his hands were cuffed and they beat him down.  Tased him, strapped him in the “Devil’s Chair” tased him some more, put a hood over his face and poured water down his throat until he choked.  He was finally dragged away and taken to a hospital where he never regained consciousness.

Only because the videos of the booking room were discovered did those “cops” pay for the murder of Jessie Lee Williams.

And the broken record continues to skip.
