Last-Minute Filers

Mobile Tax  Some IRS offices are extending their hours to accomodate the close to 550000 Alabamians that have waited until the last minute to file their taxes.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - The Internal Revenue Service estimates
that 536,000 Alabamians have waited until the last minute to file a
tax return or an extension.
IRS spokesman Dan Boone in Birmingham says help is available
before Wednesday night's deadline.
The IRS offices in Huntsville, Birmingham, Montgomery and Mobile
are staying open until 6 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday to help
taxpayers. There are also community help sites in 38 counties that
offer free tax preparation for people with household incomes of
$48,000 or less last year. Taxpayers can call 1-800-906-9887 for
locations.
