Mobile County Sheriff Sam Cochran calls it a history making bust.

Friday night, members of the narcotics and vice unit raided a home on Savannah Drive in West Mobile. They seized over 4,700 Ecstasy pills,1 1/2 kilos of cocaine, a machine-gun and two military assault rifles. The drugs alone are worth $250,000.

The raid was the culmination of an 18-month long undercover investigation into 26-year-old Than Nguyen. “This is one drug dealer we’ve had a close eye on for some time," said Sheriff Sam Cochran.

Less than 45 minutes after the raid, deputies arrested Nguyen at a pool hall on Airport Boulevard and seized his 1999 Acura Integra.

Back at Nguyen's home, deputies also seized seven plasma tv's and three surround sound systems, worth $17,000. They believe the electronics were bought with drug money.

Nguyen is charged with trafficking cocaine and trafficking a controlled substance. He was released after posting $10,000 bond.

I’d bet money that if he’s not already on a plane back to Vietnam, he’ll be on one in the next 72 hours.

Wow, when i was a teenager I got a $50,000 bond for keying a vehicle, and it was my first time ever being in trouble. This man has more Ecstasy than a New York Rave and gets off with $10,000 bond. Who wants to bet he misses his first court date ?????

Mobile County Sheriff Sam Cochran you are doing a great job.  Thank you for your hard work!

Does anyone else find it strange that you don’t see the Mobile Police Chief talking about all the big drug bust they are making but you see Mobile County Sheriff Sam Cochran in the news all the time.  Maybe if the Mobile Police would quit wasting time on road blocks and actually work on fighting crime they might help get some more drug dealers off the streets.

What’s wrong with the above sentence? (I’ll give you a hint—it wasn’t proof-read!)

I think the $10,000 bond is a good example of why we continue to have crime.    Just look at the two brothers that were both out on bond and they were still robbing people.  Now that they seized all this suff he will probally be selling twice if not three times as much to make up what he has lost and pay for the arrest.  Just does not make any sense.

There’s probably a family member or something that’s already taken his place as the new distributor. And he’s out on bond so he’ll have plenty of time to make arrangements for his “business.” He definitely wasn’t pushing this much dope himself, so you can bet business will continue as usual with or without him. I applaud the Sheriff’s department for their work and efforts. Unfortunately, while you may win a few battles, the war on drugs will NEVER be won.

Only a $10,000 bond - what’s with that?
