The Irvington father accused of tossing his four kids off the Dauphin Island Bridge has changed his plea.

Last week, Lam Luong wrote a letter to the judge telling him he is guilty and wants the death penalty. Now, he's changed his plea back to not guilty. Luong is accused of capital murder for the unthinkable crime that happened in January 2008.

Since Monday, lawyers have been sifting through questionnaires to pick a jury for the capital murder case. The state is confident that a 15-panel jury will be ready to hear the case by the end of the week.

After Luong's plea change, his lawyers quickly asked to renew their change of venue request and to delay the trial. So far, the judge has denied those requests.

Just like I said yesterday I thought this would set up the defense to ask for a change of venue. It is also a ploy for the defense to get more to time to present their case.  It seems that Luong didn’t know that he still had to endure a trial even if he pled guilty.  Sure his attorney’s probably advised him.  But then again they knew that they could buy more time by allowing the several changes in plea to occur.  The attorney’s are playing this game.

This case should be made into a soap opera.

Bogging down the court——sung to the tune of “Bringing Down the House”

Sound like to me he is just playing with the courts now!  He knows just what he is doing? He wants people to think he is CRAZY!

Please don’t insult me just because I asked a question.

You said that he had to plead not guilty to be considered for the death penalty.  I am just trying to understand the logic.

Are you that gullable to think that if someones asks to be put to death that the state will actually go along with it and carry it out?  There are guildelines that have to be met before anyone can be put to death.

Let me get this straight.  If you ask to be put to death it won’t happen unless you plead not guilty?

Yeah, ok.

Is this a change of venue for this case? Wouldn’t this allow to change the location of the trial?

The change in plea is so he can be sentenced to death under the guidelines.

I mean WOW. How do you go from writing a letter of guilt to the judge, to then “changing your mind”? This case has been unreal since it first began. I hope EVERYONE always remembers what he did to those 4 innocent children. I can’t begin to imagine the state of horror their mother has been in for all of these months.
