A judge is holding Paul Hamman in contempt of court for not removing the towers of trash and junk cars scattered all over his property.

The Semmes man was originally charged with criminal littering in January 2008. The judge gave him multiple extensions to get the work done.

Ginger Parker, Hamman's attorney, says her client has worked hard to remove the junk from around his home on Redstone Drive East. But she says the cleanup can't be done over night.

"There's a lot of stuff on that property," Parker said. "It took a long time to get there and its going to take a long time to remove it."

Hamman will serve 5 days in jail. Once he's released, he'll have another three months to clean it up or end back in court.

Hamman's son says the junk is not hurting anyone and he wishes the court would heave his father alone. But since that's not going to happen, he's desperate to get his father some help. If you can help remove the junk, call Paul Hamman Jr. at 251.644.7084.

That enviromental court and judge can really crack down if need be.So far this fellow seems not to be paying heed to the judge or maybe he’s not capable of heeding the judge. He doesn’t seem to be that old or senile so either he doesn’t understand the order or doesn’t want to obey the order. As one man told me after coming from that court"THAT JUDGE,HE DON"T BE KIDDING”.Mr.Hamman would probably be wise to comply with the order or seek a hotdog attorney! One way he would make money and the other way he’s gonna lose money.

you know i was just thinking about he should get some of the people from the flea market to come take a look at that stuff. it all might not be junk.  a victorian claw tub might be worth some money.

There are scrap metal companies in the area that will take heavy equipment to the site, crush the old vehicles, haul them off and pay the guy for the metal.

I don’t think anyone at all has advised this guy and I have a hunch the guy needs some help thinking this through to a rational conclusion.

Did anyone tell him that the Mobile County Junk Ordinance gives him an option to screen the stuff from the road with fencing or shrubberies?  Has anyone ever explained this new law to him?

It sounds like he is being railroaded by some hotheaded judge that has turned an ordinance issue into a class c criminal misdemeanor.  This guy needs a smart, energetic lawyer.

I believe people volunteered but didn’t carry through with their promises. As his lawyer stated, it took years to accumulate, it will take some time to clear it.

I liked the looks of a cast iron tub he had in the front yard. I could sink it in my yard and put in a Madonna. Do you think the hysterical committee would object?

i bet he has some antiques worth some money in there and does not even know it. those wrecked vehicles could be sold off for parts. has the city offered to help this man? has anyone offered to help this man?

southfan1981, i agree with you 100 percent.

I don’t like this one either.  This old guy is sitting in jail, because he collected old junk.  He can’t earn any money and he can’t work on the problem.

People are all outraged about war criminals in Gitmo than they are about people like this guy.  Reminds me of that old woman that was roughed up by the cops and thrown in jail, because she couldn’t get her lawn cut.  It is outrageous!

This is UBBELIEVABLE. A driver traveling over 100MPH, kills two innocent kids and she gets a PAT on the wrists. This man is a hoarder and he gets jail time? I think it’s the blonde white woman syndrome striking. Ms Martin should have been hauled off the streets the first time she got a speeding ticket at 105MPH.

Where do we dig up these judges?

I would like to know how long Mr. Hamman has been living on his property and how long the neighbors who are complaining have been living there. Who was there first? Was the property like that when Mr. Hamman acquired it?

Of course I’m only going to get one side of this story and that is the side of the neighbors and of course they will always consider themselves the victim.

People who moan and groan and try to get in the spotlight over such trivial matters as this, will one day have something happen to them and then they will wonder why they have problems.  What goes around comes around.
