HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (AP) - A jury is close to deciding the fate of
a man charged with capital murder in the slayings of two people
killed inside a restaurant in Huntsville.
Jurors were scheduled to begin deliberations Friday in the trial
of Jamal Woods. Woods is accused of shooting two Athens men,
Tanqueray "Tank" Beavers and Thurston Turner, inside at T.G.I.
Friday's in Huntsville on Dec. 17, 2006.
Testimony showed that the shooting began after one of the
victims waved to Woods' wife.
The defense argued that Woods snapped when Rogers and Beavers
continued to wave at his wife across the crowded restaurant. They
said Woods' hair-trigger temper was the result of growing up in Los
Angeles around gangs.
Two more people were wounded in the shooting.
Woods played football at Davidson High School in Mobile until he was expelled because of excessive
absences. He later graduated from Williamson High School.
