You could actually benefit from a compromise between Jemison's Bait Shop and Mobile County. In an effort to save his shop, Harry Jemison has agreed to get rid of his 3 dollar boat launch fee. That's part of the compromise he made with the county to stay in his lease South of Alabama Port. The county wanted to boot Jemison out four years before his lease was up to build a parking lot for new fishing piers and boat launches.
Instead, Commissioner Mike Dean says they worked together to come up with another idea. "We gonna go elsewhere to develop that Causeway all the way to Dauphin Island. In return, he's given free access to launch boats, keep the place up and protect my marshland."
Jemison believes support from the community is what really saved his bait shop and he's thankful to so many people. "I could start naming names but I would leave someone out. I think they listened to the voters."
Jemison has also promised to help the county pull up some sunken boats in the water around his launch. He hopes by working with the county, he'll be able to sign a new lease in 2013.
