now filed paperwork with the secretary of state to run for
governor.
State law requires a candidate to file after spending $25,000 to
seek a statewide office. Davis filed paperwork Friday afternoon. It
shows that he is the sole member of his campaign committee for
governor.
Davis filed the state report after his congressional campaign
finance report showed payments to campaign staff and a rental fee
for the hall in Birmingham where he kicked off his campaign.
Davis is not the first Democrat to file with the secretary of
state to run for governor. Self-employed inventor Sam Franklin
Thomas of Huntsville filed in March.
