MOBILE, Alabama - It's a combinations fear and exhilaration when you're watching the Alabama Auburn game. “Football's one of the best sports to watch on TV, I wish I was at the game right now but the rivalry has been around for years,” says Alabama fan and current student Courtney Marr.
The first house I hit on my party-crashing tour of Mobile was full of college-age fans. These fans were gathering for a combination Iron Bowl and 23rd birthday party. For this cadre of co-eds the game's about nostalgia
“It's close to my heart, it always will be, I'm an old girl living in the past,” says Auburn Alum Meggy Kelly. For everyone that watches the game, this is a chance to kick back with family and friends.
Across town at the Adams household you'll find family that's been bonding over the bowl for years.
“My brothers and I have been long die hard Alabama fans and my mother's side of the family has been auburn fans and we've been doing this for the last 10 to 15 years getting together,” says Mike Adams. The Iron Bowl has an iron tradition to bring families together.
