Infant Shooting Victim Released From Hospital

Alabama Shooting A Citronelle baby who police say was shot by a teenager is released from the hospital.

An 11-month-old baby is released from USA Children's and Women's hospital two days after police say she was shot in the head with a BB gun fired by a 14-year-old.

According to a statement taken at the scene, the suspected shooter told police she fired one shot away from baby Tasia, who was being held by another juvenile, and then pointed the gun directly at Tasia and fired the second shot from about 3 or 4 feet away. Tasia was struck on the left side of her head, and the BB went under her skin to the top of her left ear.

The shooting happened Saturday night at a home on Boy Scout Road in Citronelle. Police say Tasia was in the care of her godmother, Shirley Ann Coleman, who is also the suspected shooter's mother, but Coleman says the account of the shooting reported by police is not exactly what happened. Coleman insists she was holding the infant in her own arms and happened to walk outside at the same time someone fired the shot. She says she doesn't know if her daughter pulled the trigger, but insists the bullet ricoheted off a door and hit Tasia.

"The mama says she forgives me. She's not upset or nothing, but it's just hard. It's really, really hard," cried Coleman.

Doctors decided not to remove the BB from Tasia's head. Her mom, Brittany Tillman, says they'll keep a close eye on it during doctor's visits to determine if it should be removed later.

Citronelle Police have not said whether charges will be filed in the case. The Department of Human Resources is investigating the incident.

What are you talking about!? I play video games all the time, and when you shoot someone they get back up and are ok and they’re not really dead, so it’s ok to do it in real life! DUUUUH.

I agree completely. Ever wonder why kids always seem to point the firearm at the head? I guess kids will mimic whatever they see on television or whatever their parents do.

I’m sorry, but today’s children have no business whatsoever in possession of any kind of firearm, rather it be a BB Gun or a .22 Rifle. When I was 13 years old I received a .22 Rifle for my birthday, used it for 8 years, hunting squirrels and rabbits, and I had enough sense to realize that it was a DEADLY WEAPON, and not a toy. I hunted by myself many times, exercising all the proper precautions, to be sure that I did not hurt of kill anything I was not going to eat. With good reason too, I KNEW that if I shot anything I was not supposed to, my DADDY was gonna WHIP MY TAIL! The thing in today’s world is, children/kids do not have responsibility, simply because there is no repercussions. I feel as though this incident falls back into the hands of the parents! This 14 year old, should have been taught the PROPER handling of a firearm, before having it placed in his UNSUPERVISED hands.
