An Orange Beach wedding is featuring something almost as a big as the love between the bride and groom. The marriage of Gail and Joe Nettles today, June 13th, 2009, featured a wedding cake; it’s one you've probably never seen before. It's a giant omelet. It’s a large version of Tacky Jack’s “Farmer’s Omelet.” The huge breakfast took more than eight hours to cook and build. It has more than 1,400 eggs, almost 100 pounds of cheese, and 600 potatoes. The bride and groom say it's the perfect way to celebrate their special day.
“The farmer's omelet was always my favorite breakfast and my friend Buddy Skipper just put this awesome thing together and this is the world's largest farmer's omelet in the shape of a wedding cake,” says Bride Gail Nettles. The owners of Tacky Jack's in Orange Beach were trying to break the world record for the largest omelet. They didn't quite make the record though. The record omelet used five times as many eggs.
