Foley police say a man confessed to killing his wife because she was going to leave him. One of the couple's sons was in the room when he pulled the trigger.

Police say 46-year-old Theresa Walsh locked her husband, 67-year-old David Mumford, out of the house Sunday. When he kicked in the door, she sprayed him with pepper spray. But that didn't slow him down. As Walsh ran away, police say Mumford shot her multiple times with a 25-caliber Colt pistol.

The couple's 14-year-old son, who was in the room and saw the shooting, kicked the gun out of his dad's hand. Mumford then started choking his son. His son fought back and got him to stop after hitting Mumford in the head.

Walsh died at the scene. Police say Mumford confessed to the murder during questioning.

The couple's 14-year-old and 12-year-old sons are now in the custody of their older brother.

he was a very unhappy man and sick and very nasty. never had nice things to say and was also right about everything. hopfully, he will rot in hell for this.

My heart goes out to all the children. I only saw that man one time and he was screaming at me for something (I don’t remember it was along time ago). I never imagined he was married and had children. Since he was so scared of being alone he had to take his wifes life and tried to take his sons for being protective, then they should lock him up all by his lonesome and let him rot there. I am sure the children will get the help they need and I pray that they can find peace in their heart.

Kudos to this young man for standing up to his father.  Violence is not the answer to any situation.  It is a shame that these children are now motherless because of a possessive and controlling man.  I hope that these children will be given the psychological help that they will need to move past this and hopefully they will not grow up to be abussive themselves.

I live just down the street from this family and he was very abusive. They had 3 boys together and had a home based shop where they worked to repair auto seats and such. He has recently suffered several types of heart surgery. The oldest son moved out of the home as soon as he was legally able to. This family kept to them selves and were very private. Theresa (the victim) was a very sweet lady and would speak whenever she was approached. He was so possessive that he would not let her go anywhere by herself. I am very shocked that this has happened but at the same time I fear for the children. These boys did not go to school. They were home schooled. My heart goes out to this family. I hope that he gets what he deserves as this type of violence has been a problem for this family for a long time.

She probably began her marriage as an old man’s sweetheart. The signs of abuse must have been there before this incident. If you are being abused, seek help immediately so you don’t become another statistic. According to another article I read, he is 68 and she was 45.

What a brave young kid. Im impressed.
