MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - The stress to find gas money to return
to Louisiana has led to a family fight in a Montgomery church
parking.
Two sisters staying at the Vaughn Park Church of Christ shelter
began fighting Wednesday because one would not give the other more
gas money. Samantha Williams and her older sister, Roxanna,
caravanned to Alabama from Louisiana to escape Hurricane Gustav.
During the scuffle, Roxanna's boyfriend, Don Duplessis, punched
Samantha and sliced two tires of her SUV with a knife.
Montgomery Police charged 27-year-old Duplessis with harassment.
Church officials say many evacuees have exhausted their money
and need funds to return home. They say they will replace William's
two flat tires.

MUST, I have to admit you are right. On the Gulf Coast, we know what we face during these months and we have learned to be prepared. When I moved to NJ and we were struck by Floyd, 17 million people lost their water because of flooding. I was one of them but I had TONS of water saved up. My fiance at the time thought I was nuts when I went to WallyMart and stocked up once I knew it was coming. But his sorry self was drinking bottled water, others were crying about having to boil.
So, be prepared with the little things. It’s not going to kill most of us to eat peanut butter and crackers or tuna or beans for a couple of weeks. Buy an extra can or pack every week and you have your stash. No more crying. As for ice, I fill up 2LT bottles and freeze them. It’s clean, keeps things frozen as I packed my freezer with them, then I can drink the stuff.
The extra bags of ice they were giving out were nice, for a treat.

AMEN AMEN AMEN !!!!  We all make the choice for the most part where we live in the great big world.  Do not think for one minute if I had endured the losses most of the people of NO has endured that I would be back down there rebuilding.  No mam, I would be hoping for some government buy out program for my piece of property and I would be heading north and inland.  Now don’t get me wrong, leaving your home is not easy for some, but when you have nothing to return to then I don’t really see the problem.  You make your choices, you know the possible consequences, so be prepared to accept them and do not sit on your tush waiting for someone to give you a free ride.  No one came and offered me a ride away from Katrina.  Heck we never even saw the Red Cross in our area.  We pooled our resources, cooked our defrosting food and fed anyone who wanted to eat.  Finally, for 3 weeks with lived without power,10 days no water.  We made it, so can everyone else.  My only soft spot is for the elderly

Why do people believe the governemnt OWES them money, It really pi$$’ me off that people are so quick to blame the government for thier lack of planning.  I really get mad when things like this happen, why are people not taking responsability for thier own actions and lives and expecting the gov. to bail them out of every situation.  FEMA should not pay for hotels, food, gas or anything.  If they live on the gulf coast they know the drill and should be prepared for it every year during this time.  And the whining about free money, please give me a break, you want a better life, house, job, vehicle and money in the bank,,,,GET AN EDUCATION AND A JOB.  Why should I have to strugle through life raising a family, and placing myself in a position to live a comfortable life to support people that want to do nothing more than sit on thier azz and colect a check from Uncle Sam. And please dont give me the b.s. about oppurtunity or oppression.

Why was Roxannes boyfriend puching anybody.  Obviously he had no money and was trying to back his woman up for gas money when he was broke. Sounds like to me he be a scrub.

I think her sister was just mean and stingy if her sister neaded gas and she had enoth money she should have given her some or bought her gas.

Wonders why we didnt seem to care that 9/11 victims were paid millions? I guess that’s not welfare since they weren’t poor widows what with their workers comp and airline pay offs as well.

Now she is gonna expect her sister to pay to fix her weave.  I mean she owes to it to her, right???  Like I said, this attitude that “I’m owed something by everyone else” is getting real old real fast.

Lawd.  It sounds like Shasta was ripping some weave.

Guess their disability checks are not on automatic deposit.

Personally, I thought it was funny that Fred Small, Daphne Mayor, wanted background checks on Katrina folks. I know it’s not really funny, but to me it is. I just can’t say how much is enough.
