Hungry? Eating In Daphne Could Be Challenging

Alabama Daphne Recession could be the reason why at least five Daphne restaurants have closed this summer

DAPHNE, Alabama - Parts of Highway 98 in Daphne look like a ghost town! Hungry drivers getting off the first exit in Baldwin County are finding boarded up restaurants, closed signs, weed-choked parking lots and missing drive-thru menus. Many of their favorite fast-food restaurants and local eateries have gone out of business, creating growling stomachs and a lot of concern.

"I know what it takes to run a business and it's a big concern," says Daphne Mayor Fred Small. Small says the recession has forced many restaurants owners to close shop. Small says families on a tight budget simply don't have extra money to go out to eat.

"If you had a two income family and one of the partners got laid off, it'd definitely affect your family," says Small.

Daphne restaurants that have recently closed:

-Krystal
-Checkers
-Roly Poly
-Russo's
-Frosty Dog

Until the economy rebounds, empty restaurants...and empty stomachs could continue to be a problem along the Eastern Shore.

I don’t no the hours of the new location (wonderful seafood buffet on Fri and Sat night) if like stockton closed on Sunday evening.

I’ve heard good things about the place in Stockton. Is it just home cookin’ type food? And, what are their hours?
