Yeah, the people that setup for Mardi Gras and the festivals in the area could spend the summer at Dauphin Island selling dogs, burgers, sausages and maybe some shrimp poboys…...

Forget them!  I am now starving!!!!!  LOL

You are right Bamabob.  Someone coule really make out with a food stand like hot dogs or hamburgers and slushes.  Someone out there looking for work? Here ya go.

I bet a person could pull some type of food trailer down there during the season and do pretty good, now that there is not much competition.  If storms start to threaten, they could just hook it up and pull it inland.

Hmmmmmm…...

The Sea Food Shanity and the Dairy Isle were right across the street from the public beach (pier) and a bar. I don’t believe any of them are open now.  The bakery has good food!

I guess last fall was my first trip back to the island since Katrina.  The place I’m thinking about is still standing there, but looks empty and in bad repair.  It looks like an old fashioned burger joint, but they did some pretty good seafood baskets.

Bama Bob - Katrina and economy after the storm I loved the Dairy Isle!

What became of that place on the right past the public beach that had been there forever?  Think there was a little ice cream stand next to it.

There was also another restaurant on the main street that had been there a long time and it looks like it is gone too.  In fact, it was pretty hard to find a place to eat on the island last time I was down that way.

Possibly the best pizza in Alabama can be had at the Island Rainbow across from those new condo’s heading to the west end.The prices are very reasonable even for Dauphin Island.

Another plug for that little fish market in the video.  While I was waiting in line to make my order, people were raving about the Red Beans & Rice.  Unfortunately, they were out that day, or I would have given those a try too.

The slaw is made at that place in the video,  forget the name of it, but it is on the main drag as soon as you take a right in front of the water tower.

I just got the slaw instead of french fries and did not notice that they called it “Cajun” coleslaw.  It was really good, but not sure if it was just pepper, or something else with the heat.  I’ve eaten Jalapeno peppers that would have run from that stuff!
