A bizarre accident in Chunchula has left behind a big mess and kept traffic tied up for hours. A truck carrying a mobile home burst into flames on Georgetown Chunchula Road near Highway 45.“This is not often we get something like this, this is a first for me and the fire department,” says Oak Grove Fire Rescue Chief Jesse McLaughlin. He says the whole thing started before noon Saturday, May 16th 2009. Authorities say a mobile home was being towed on an 18-wheeler from Semmes to Chunchula.
“Apparently the mobile home was in tow when it lost its wheels and caught fire,” says the chief. Authorities say the fire was put out quickly. The bigger problem was the burned wreckage left behind. Wrecker crews apparently turned down the job to tow it away and they had to push it to the side of the road just to get it out of the way. Authorities say the driver was cited for illegally towing the home without a permit or proper insurance. No one was injured in the blaze.
