EUFAULA, Ala. (AP) - A Eufaula man and a horse died after being
struck by a tractor trailer.
State troopers said 36-year-old Albert Lewis III was crossing
U.S. 431 on a horse about 7:45 p.m. Sunday when they were struck by
the truck. Lewis was pronounced dead at a Eufaula hospital.
The truck driver, 63-year-old Robert Batterson of Iowa, was not
injured.
Highway Patrol Capt. Ricky Peak said he can't recall working
another traffic fatality involving a horse and rider. He said at
least one other rider was with Lewis when the accident happened.

No, unfortunately the DRUNK DRIVER had a case because Pete’s fences were “in poor repair.”

Hello KxVicious! Young lady how are you doing in school? And more important, how is your health holding up? I bet that gentleman that tried to sue about those horses got a reality check.Last thing I heard about horses and cows and deer was it was just your tough luck if you hit one in the road.I believe the state said you couldn’t sue because of live stock in the road and causing damage and I think the same with deer.I think all automobiles should come with those sort of whistles built in the front end to let the wild life and live stock know your coming.Could save some lives and animals that way i think.

Ugh. I know a group of riders struck by a speeding driver with no headlights on a dark road. It sent several riders by life-flight to the hospital, all of which survived, and at least 1 horse was killed.

There was also an incident where a DRUNK DRIVER plowed through and killed 3 horses on Airport Blvd (near Newman Rd), then had the audacity to SUE because the horses were not in a pasture.

I saw one case where a pick up truck had hit a deer and you could tell it was fatally injured and the man got out of his truck and checked the damage to the grill of the truck, looked at the deer and shook his head then went and picked up what looked to be a pole of some sort and beat the dear to death then with great trouble put the deer in the back of his truck, waved and drove a way.I think that was one deer that got dressed out before the night was over.I don’t know if the state pays anything any more for damage if you turn the deer in to a game warden.

i have noticed that lately on my commute up 45, the deer i mean, its got me driving slower at night, there are some big deer up here. funny i heard you cant pick them up if you do hit them. i always thought truck season started when the time changed oin october.

Usually it’s just a horse involved and no rider.Horses, cattle and deer are killers on the road for drivers. The last one I remember is the one the trooper was killed by a horse on I believe 56,the road between Wagarville and Chatom.I use to travel that road quite often and have been surprised more than once by a horse or deer and even an off the road vehicle in the road around the bend or over a hill. When it’s dark you don’t get too much time to react to such.
