A Semmes man is accused of stealing $40,000 worth of merchandise from a Home Depot on Schillinger Road.

Mobile police say Paul Gwin, 51, stole everything from a hammer and nails to a lawn mower. Gwin, who worked as a delivery truck driver for the home improvement store, stole the merchandise from the truck and took it to his home on Coleman Dairy Road, according to police.

"We obtained various items that were taken over the course of a year," says Cpl. Charles Bagsby, referring to a search of Gwin's home.

Gwin, who investigators believe was stealing from the store for more than a year, was arrested Tuesday after the store's management called police to report the thefts. Gwin is charged with Theft of Property. He is out of jail on a $7,500 bond.

1st off home depot subcontracts deliveries no employee does any deliveries and havent for YEARS. so that story is just that a story to make the store managers in the store and district not look like complete morons. $40k is alot to walk out of a store by 1 associate without anyone else knowing. i think all managers at this store should be fired for not managing and operating a store correctly how could a store not catch something like this during an inventory. they said he had been stealing for over a year companys usually do at least 1 inventory a year. and for low market stores $40k is a lot of money to lose by 1 person not including other thiefs so seems to me like home depot falsifys documents for not catching this during an inventory but thats my opinion ive worked in retail management and know how these systems work so maybe thats why im so opinionated about this. i think every manager in that store should be fired $40k 1 person thats pathetic it took a year to catch
