Here is the complete report:

The Pascagoula Police Department arrested Gregory Wayne Lewis 29, 8317 William Baxter Road, Moss Point, MS on December 27, 2008 after Officer Johnny Jefferson observed a black Chevrolet Tahoe driven by Mr. Lewis driving erratically, weaving in and out of traffic. Officer Jefferson attempted to stop the Tahoe at the intersection of Highway 90 and Chicot Road; Mr. Lewis ran the red light and turned Northbound onto Chicot Road, refusing to stop for Officer Jefferson. The pursuit continued westbound on Shortcut Road then northbound on Macphelah Street and westbound on Criswell Avenue to Telephone Road/ Highway 613. Mr. Lewis ran the stop sign at Criswell Avenue and Telephone Road and almost collided with a northbound vehicle. The northbound vehicle served into southbound traffic to avoid being struck by Mr. Lewis which almost caused a collision with the northbound vehicle and southbound traffic. The pursuit continued northbound into Moss Point on Main Street/ Highway 613 where officers from the Moss Point Police Department assisted in the pursuit. Mr. Lewis ran the red light at Telephone and Jefferson and continued fleeing from officers with speeds reaching 75 mph on Main Street. Moss Point Officer Upchurch was able to deploy spike strips at McInnis Street and Main Street causing the Tahoe’s right front tire to deflate. Mr. Lewis continued north bound on Main Street with a flat tire until he reached the Highway 613 Bridge at which time he attempted to make a u-turn while he was going down the north side of the bridge. Mr. Lewis lost control of his vehicle at this point and struck the guard rails on the west side of the bridge. Officers were able to apprehend Mr. Lewis at this time without further incident.

Mr. Lewis was handcuffed and placed in the backseat of Officer Jefferson’s patrol car. Officer Jefferson began transporting Mr. Lewis back to Pascagoula; Mr. Lewis kicked the left rear window out of the patrol car just south of the bridge and started climbing out the window while the car was in motion. Officer Jefferson immediately stopped his patrol car but not before Mr. Lewis was able to escape out the window. Mr. Lewis ran into the marsh on the west side of the road. Officer Risky Guerrero chased Mr. Lewis into the marsh and was able to take him back into custody after a brief struggle. Mr. Lewis was placed into Officer Guerrero’s patrol car and transported to Pascagoula Municipal Jail without any further incident.

Mr. Lewis is currently in the Pascagoula Municipal Jail awaiting an initial appearance before Judge Michael Fondren. Mr. Lewis is charged with Felony Evading, False Information, Driving under the Influence, Driving with a Suspended License, No Insurance, No Seatbelt, and No Tag. Mr. Lewis will also be charged with Felony escape and Malicious Mischief on December 29, 2008. Fortunately nobody was injured during the pursuit or the escape of Mr. Lewis.
