A rare sight these days is beginning to reappear. "Help Wanted" signs are starting to pop up around South Baldwin County.
"We're gearing up or the season and typically we'll have 200 people on staff as we roll into summer," says Jim Sugarman, general manager of The Hangout.
Linda Lee is looking for a job. "I would prefer something in my background which is document control, administrative assistant in a construction line. That, I enjoy." Those jobs are hard to come by, so instead, "currently I've just been looking for server positions because I live here in Gulf Shores and there's not a lot of positions for what my skills are."
"We're having no trouble having applicants, everyday maybe 20 or 30," says Sugarman. He says while there is no shortage of applicants for servers and bar tenders finding managers has become a challenge. "Where we do see, maybe not desperate, where people are having a harder time finding jobs is managers. We have some very experienced managers that are willing to work for less than they might have three or four years ago."
For Linda, the food service industry is perfect for now. "It's lucrative. You go home with money in your pocket and that's always nice to see it."
Especially when money is almost as scarce as jobs.
