Some of you are looking for contact information to help Miss Lula Mae Battle.

She's the 81-year old Mobile woman arrested for public lewdness after an incident in Bienville Square in June. This week, the city of Mobile dropped the case against Battle.

Since this ordeal started, Battle has paid for bail and lawyer fees and got behind on her own bills. Battle's lawyer Jay Casey says he charged her 200 dollars instead of the usual fee of 400.

When the case was dropped on Wednesday, the news had to be delivered in person because Battle's phone had been disconnected.

She says she doesn't need much but is thankful to our viewers who want to pitch in. You can donate by calling United Holiness Church on North Pine Street in Mobile. Their number is (251) 767-0064.

I agree that the police did their job. There was really no way for them to avoid the situation, especially since she went right beside the substation, which is nothing but windows from every angle. It is their job to make sure that they do not favor anyone for committing a crime just because of age, race, or sex. If it was a 30 something year old woman or man, that had some bladder issues that they could not control I doubt it would be as big of an issue. It is and was up to the courts to decide where to take the case, which we all knew that it would not make it to trial and no one would have known about the incident unless they were there or knew her if it was not for her “lawyer” taking it to the media.

As I said earlier,The police did what they were supposed to do,and Lula Mae did what she HAD to do,but back to lula Mae.I think she deserved some special consideration from the prosecutors due to her age and probable mental decline and lack of any history of trouble.More or less a minor first offence.I’m still wondering if Lula Mae has any family around locally ?I haven’t heard of any,but sometimes family members only show up when there’s money to be had,So any money collected for her should be watched by a trust worthy executor or other persons or else all that sweet stuff will attract plenty of vermin.

guess it just Depends.

sure she she committed a crime against someone. She committed a crime against anyone in the park at that time and against the cadet sitting in that box. Nobody wants to see that. Its offensive. What if nobody stopped all the homeless from doing the same thing in the park? Is that ok? i dont want somebody urinating in front of me while i have my kids with me or maybe trying to have a nice lunch. Same thing

I do not think her lawyer should have gotten a dime. The lawyer humiliated her by taking this to the media and without a doubt knew that the chances of this case going to trial was slim to none. In these hard financial times 200 dollars is a significant amount for many that have a steady income coming in. So I can imagine what kind of strain it would put on someone of her age that probably is not able to work and is living off of her SSI. If this lawyer was really worried about her financial problem he or she would not have took a dime from her. JMHO.

I’m not a big fan of Mobile’s community action INC either. From talking to people about trying to get help through them, very few had anything nice to say about them. The people left me with the impression that the community action group had a list of perferred customers for funds or help, never have tried getting anything from them myself.Wonder if LULA MAE has any family in the area?

This is absolutely ridiculous!! So if I break the law, can I get all you bleeding hearts to pay my bills??? Anyone who gives money to this cause is either “democrat”, or just plain stupid. I see how it is here in ‘bama…..if you’re a “democrat”, then you can break the law and get away with it, and on top of that you can get OTHER people to pay your bills for you. And this is for Mzyoli….get over MJ…he died because he killed himself….period. Check the facts on that one.

I have a heart. Im just against raising money for someone because they broke the law. Next time you have a crime commited against you, are you gonna raise money for their legal fees? No matter how you look at it or what your opinion of it is, she broke the law.

There is help out there for a Seniors like Lula Mae. There is Life link for her phone. If she gets ANY kind of government assistance she can get her phone turned back on. AT&T is a high priced company get rid of them fast! She can even keep her same phone number!! I am not a senior and I applied for it.

The people over at Mobile Community Action might be able to help with her light bill, and that is IF they have not contacted all their friends and family members to get down there first! I know a senior who said she called last week and the woman kept telling her to call back! They help who they want to and that is wrong! There is help for her. She never should have been arrested in the first place.

As for some of the comments about money being raised “Start with the man in the mirror and ask him to change his ways” There is nothing wrong with helping another in need! Get a heart!

I cannot believe people are raising money for this. What she did was wrong and shes already getting off the hook. I am under 40 years old and on fluid medication so does that mean i can urinate anywhere. The police were right in what they did and she got away with it anyway so let it go
