MALBIS, Ala. (AP) - A Baldwin County church demonstrated some
economic stimulus by giving its members $50,000, but not to keep.
Trey Taylor is in charge of creative worship at Bay Community
Church in Malbis. On Sunday, church leaders handed each member in
the 2,000-member congregation the money, with a stipulation. They
cannot give it back to the church or spend it on their family. It
must go to help others.
Some got $20, others $100.
The church's leaders admit tithing is down among churches. But
the pastoral team says now is the best time to help others.
Taylor says the government has an economic stimulus package. He
says this is the church's version of a faith stimulus package.
