MOBILE, Alabama - The man accused in the high dollar antique heist reportedly stole a staircase and an elevator from a home in West Mobile County.

That case dates back to 2006 but came to light this year as authorities started investigating Matt Walker.

In May 2006, Walker was reportedly an "acquaintance" of the residents at a home on Airport Boulevard near the Mississippi state line. Court records show that he offered to keep an eye on the place while they vacationed and he cleaned them out after they left.

According to authorities, Walker snagged carpet, fireplace mantles, wall fountains, a staircase and an elevator from inside the home.

Our documents show that the victim apparently located the items at one of Walker's homes and got it all back. We're told that he chose not to file charges against Walker out of respect for his family.

Walker is known in Mobile high-society as a casino developer and entrepreneur who had a knack for "flipping" houses. Authorities say he got his victims to trust him but acting as if he was interested in buying their property.

Walker is charged with four counts of receiving stolen property for a handful of cases in Mobile and Baldwin Counties. The homeowners reported missing family heirlooms and the list of victims continues to grow.

Many of the items were reportedly recovered in some of Walker's homes in West Mobile.

More charges could be filed against Walker and we're told that the FBI will eventually be asked to help in the investigation.

Walker is expected in court on November 23rd.

I do understand and respect what you are saying MShipp23. It is just a personal peeve of mine to act like any one group of people is “better” or “worse” than another, based on their income or lack thereof…..That was my point. I do believe this will be more far reaching than anyone thought, and that the reason this case came to light, is because of recent developments in more recent cases…..

I would like to respond to 2 members.  First to rmseek1234, I think you have missed the point here. I believe it is relavant and needed to be brought out because it is like the good old boy system at its best. Do you know of anyone in their right mind that would lose $150,000 and not turn in their “aquaintence” because they did not want to hurt the thief’s family??    As for FOX, This man renovates old homes, If someone can steal cows I bet a good crew can rip out staircase, mantels and an elevator if it looks legit.  That property that was on last nights report is way out Airport and is known as Spring Lake Farms, it looks like it is in bad condition now.  I may be an “older” citizen but I believe that it is about time that someone steps up… that old place is of historical value, and my comment to mob1,  I agree with you that it does seem to be a valid explanation why they never filed charges.  I would really like to know if all the stuff was put back.  There are a lot of people in this small city of “society” that just might feel guilty enough now to tell the truth.  Keep asking Tiffany, Something made that person come forward after 3 years of “protecting his family”.  Maybe it will inspire others and Tyson might actually learn something.

Tiffany, be careful what you asked for. You are liable to get all kinds of rumors emailed to you…:)

No one will explain to me how the elevator was stolen. Trust me, I asked. This story is a tough tale to tell due to the fact that no one in the community will talk. If you know something, please email me at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)

Is there a statute of limitations on his crimes or is that only for Alabama judges?

Well, I noticed that the article mentions “Victims - Plural” so obviously this was not his first time.

With that being said I have to agree with MShipp why hasn’t something been done to him sooner? They obviously know which folks he has done this too before or else how do they know there have been “Victims”

I would agree that his families “Social” level has played a roll in this guy. What else would explain why no one wanted to press charges.

MS: I also agree I am sure Tyson will screw the pooch on this one also. No one else has done anything until now, why would we expect the Tyson or the system to do something now.

WKRG New, your article title has peeked my interest, but yet once again there is no real info as related to the title.

Tell me/us how one steals an elevator.  Did he take the motors and/or cables, perhaps the cab with its ornate door, or maybe the entire thing.  Did he also take the empty vertical shaft that it traverses?

Catchy titles - with no real meat; just like that trashy Enquirer.

My comment on an earlier thread, was that it should NOT matter if he is “high society”(puh-leeze) or not. I don’t really think that is relevant, myself. Crime is crime, regardless of who does it,and how much money they have (or don’t have). Personally, I think it is silly to delegate “titles” and classifications to people.

I just had to make a comment.  It is about time that the media does not hide crimminals from the public just because they are in “Society”.  People have been talking about this guy for years, He has done so many things that are public knowledge, yet victims want to spare his family?  Did anyone out there ever think that it might be better for his family Not to be spared and the law could have stopped him from doing more and more harm?? I find it really interesting that no one has commented on this guy yet. Also not one other station has reported on this but WKRG.  What is with the FBI and eventually MAY be asked to help?? Who is protecting who? Is Tyson going to blow this one too because of who he is??  After all He is not a judge… Thank you WKRG keep up the good work!!!
