MOBILE, Alabama - Judge Bob Sherling didn't appreciate the name calling on national TV but still gave the junkman from Semmes more time to clean up.

Last week, Paul Hamman was featured on the A&E show called Hoarders.

In the season finale, Hamman was complaining about the judge in his criminal littering case and called him a three letter word. Even though the show brought along a cleanup crew, only 30-40% of the mess was actually cleaned up.

Hamman was back in court on Monday facing a 90-day jail sentence. After seeing the show, the county asked the judge for one final extension and plan to work with Hamman to get his property in compliance.

Mobile County attorney Jay Ross says they are considering giving Hamman a junkyard permit so he can fence in his stuff. "That means that he could leave most of this if he constructs a fence around the perimeter of his property. Why wasn't this done sooner? I don't know why he couldn't do it sooner. I don't know. There's a reference to some mental diminished capacity issues with him and so I'm really not sure."

Hamman apologized to the judge for the name calling and left grateful for the extra time.

The county says that the producers of A&E have offered to help Hamman again so he doesn't have to spend time in jail. He is expected back in court on November 30th.

Shame on you youratfault for not knowing the whole story before making an ignorant comment. The facts are,the guy has lived there for at least 20 years,in the same condition. It is “country,” not city-therefore,no permits required. Unless you bought your property from someone who had restrictions on it-you can do what you please. Agreed,it looks bad (Well horrible, actually),and I am sure if I was his neighbor, I would be upset. But who came first-him,or the new neighborhood. I would perhaps feel a little differently if the neighborhood had been there FIRST, and then he moved in…but that is not the case here. And a lot of the property around there is still undeveloped or farm land.Next, they will want the neighbors with the horses to get rid of them, or the roosters, or the cows….

This is absolutely absurd. This guy needs to learn the hard way how to be decent. Theres no excuse to act like a hoodlum and he should not have a permit to have a trashy lifestyle and submit his neighbors/ environment to this type of filth. Shame on him and for those supporting this decision.

OMG, Bamabob-Do you hear the harps playing???? I think we have agreed on something! A miraculous day! (Picking with ya!)

You could have a point. I know there was some land back there that they were wanting to develop at one time-that ran from that road up through the woods to Schillinger’s. Not sure what ever became of all that. So why don’t we press them to drive around and harass other junked up places? Good grief, I’d have like to see someone taking this much energy to help the poor old couple I saw a couple of years ago with chickens, among other things,up in the house. Couldn’t even get the health department to come investigate that unsanitary mess. Still makes me nauseated when I think of that dear, sweet man wanting to hug me when I drove up, with his tobacco spittle running down his chin, and chicken poop on his shirt. Then offering me something to drink with the chickens in the house, and roaches and other bugs running everywhere. Bless their hearts…

That’s probably exactly the reason behind this.  Eventually they will drive him off his land or worry him until he falls over dead from a heart attack.  Then a new sub-division will promptly go on his property.

My opinion, as to why he was singled out-the squeaky wheel gets oiled. I have lived in the Semmes area most of my life, and as far back as I can remember, his house has been like that. I’m thinking 20 years at least? Anyway, that is one area that is growing and prospering, with nicer homes, etc. TRUE-people could have not built if they were offended by their neighbors. But isn’t it much better to build your dream home, then complain? I have a feeling if this had been, say off Lott Rd.in a particular section or one of the less prosperous areas of Semmes-we wouldn’t have heard about it and it would have been a non-story.

It is difficult to understand why this guy was singled out.

What gets me is that the judge gets all bent out of shape and acts like the man is being defiant, so he starts to punish the guy.  If the judge had bothered to look into this ailment he would have realized the man’s problem has nothing to do with defiance.  So, it just keeps going in a circle and gets worse for the old fart each time.

Well, since Bubba is off the bench,I don’t think he will have to worry about spankings. Unless there is another spanker lurking out there….Ewe!

I have to wonder though, Bamabob-if the county officials would be persecuting this man,if it were not for the “media.” I think you know,as well as I do,that there are plenty of other places that could use a bulldozer to clean up the mess-but THOSE haven’t received the award winning journalistic efforts this has. (sarcastic)

Well he hasn’t been “spanked” yet

It is extremely obvious that this guy has a bad case of Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD)and the judge should have taken that into consideration in the first place.  To continuously persecute the man does not alleviate the problem and only makes the county officials look bad.
