The attack happened around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Walmart off the I-65 East Service Road in Mobile.
The thief, who witnesses describe as a black, young man wearing a dark ball cap, approached the woman, told her he had a gun and demanded money. The thief stole her purse then ran east toward Springdale Boulevard.
Tuesday's attack is the seventh robbery in the same parking lot in the last twelve months, according to police records.
"I have had people approach me in the parking lot just about money or whatever, and I never turn my back on them," said Jennifer Bucklew, a customer who shops at the store every week.
"I know they have security. I've seen someone in a security car," said Jo Ann Miller, another customer. "When it happens over and over they're obviously getting away with it," she said.
A spokesperson for the police department says the store has surveillance cameras, but police will not say whether the crime was caught on tape.
The victim in the latest incident suffered scrapes and bruises, but she was not seriously hurt.
