One person was shot and a neighbor moved quickly to get five children out of the way.
Daphne Police said the shooting happened on Valrie Lane at Daphmont Drive near the backyard of a home.
Janay Jackson said she was in the home.
She said, "(The shooting) sounded like firecrackers and I said, "No, that's too loud to be fireworks,' and I was like, that's guns."
Jackson also said her two children and three others were out playing when the gunfire rang out.
She said, "We were telling the babies to get down, get down. We didn't know where they were being shot at."
Jackson watched the shooting develop right across from her backyard.
She said, "I was in the house. I saw the shots being fired, people running, and when I saw that, I was just trying to get the kids out the way, get them to safety."
Daphne Police said someone in one car fired at another car.
Police Chief David Carpenter said, "A car backed up to another car, and shooting took place. We don't know if both vehicles were shooting or if just one vehicle was shooting."
Carpenter said one man was shot in the back with the bullet entering near his spine and lodging in his shoulder.
But he said it was not a life threatening injury.
Carpenter said police were questioning three people in the shooting, but had not made any arrests.
A few blocks away, police closed off Cedar Drive at Warren Drive.
A woman who lives on Cedar Drive said police were searching her home.
People who live near where the shooting happened were shocked.
Charles Johnson said, "I was just getting home from work and I heard all the sirens and things coming down this way."
Daphne Police have not released the name of the shooting victim.
