Gunfire erupted in a Daphne neighborhood Friday afternoon.
One person was shot and a neighbor moved quickly to get five children out of the way.
Daphne Police said the shooting happened on Valrie Lane at Daphmont Drive near the backyard of a home.
Janay Jackson said she was in the home.
She said, "(The shooting) sounded like firecrackers and I said, "No, that's too loud to be fireworks,' and I was like, that's guns."
Jackson also said her two children and three others were out playing when the gunfire rang out.
She said, "We were telling the babies to get down, get down. We didn't know where they were being shot at."
Jackson watched the shooting develop right across from her backyard.
She said, "I was in the house. I saw the shots being fired, people running, and when I saw that, I was just trying to get the kids out the way, get them to safety."
Daphne Police said someone in one car fired at another car.
Police Chief David Carpenter said, "A car backed up to another car, and shooting took place. We don't know if both vehicles were shooting or if just one vehicle was shooting."
Carpenter said one man was shot in the back with the bullet entering near his spine and lodging in his shoulder.
But he said it was not a life threatening injury.
Carpenter said police were questioning three people in the shooting, but had not made any arrests.
A few blocks away, police closed off Cedar Drive at Warren Drive.
A woman who lives on Cedar Drive said police were searching her home.
People who live near where the shooting happened were shocked.
Charles Johnson said, "I was just getting home from work and I heard all the sirens and things coming down this way."
Daphne Police have not released the name of the shooting victim.

PARENTING! PARENTING! PARENTING! or the great lack of,Regardless of the color of skin!

My family lives on that street and the NAACP did not commit on the violence that erupted on the street or in Toulminville. I am not a racist or do I mourn for the families of the blacks that are shot down or killed here in Mobile or Baldwin county. I have mixed family and I proud of the different things they bring to the table. Thus the comment about this episode was warranted

About the only thing I can agree with is the person who asked why is the NAACP being discussed in this post.

White people are definitely the minority race in Mobile.  The NAACP says they are for ‘The Advancement of Colored People’ so since white is a color and clear is the absence of color, then they ought to be shouting to the rooftops for white people too.  And every other color under the rainbow, too.  I know what they started out to do, but they are no longer a relevant organization, and must consider disbandment.  In the case of the article under discussion here, the NAACP has no say in the matter. Regardless of the color of the people involved in this fight, they will be treated just the same as any other person that has broken the law.  The real reason for the fight will be made public, I’m sure.

At what cost does the naacp protect minorities and what minorities does it protect? Aren’t white people the minority in Mobile now? Where is the naacp when the white minority needs protection?

the naacp lost there purpose and there mind years ago. but they do a good job at showing us all what racism looks like! naacp has no place being in this post. more about lifestyle and values. poor ones and lack of!

“The purpose of the NAACP is to protect minority groups.”
Please name three decent acts the NAACP has done in the last year.  Any act that was not publicity based any act that was not motivated by money, any act that was genuinely helping minorities.

The purpose of the NAACP is to protect minority groups.

Here’s a please with the naacp. When have they ever come to the aid of someone other than a black person? Maybe they have but I never heard about it. Why aren’t they screaming about the things that cause the kids to do what they do today? Why aren’t they getting on TV and condemning Crappers that call themselves artist for the lyrics they fill the youth with. Why aren’t they doing more to get parents to do their job? The why aren’t the naacp dihis and that could go on forever except for the truth. They are nothing more than media hounds themselves. Where was the Mobile naacp president when Herman Thomas was first charged? What is their stance nowon Herman Thomas now that some evidence has been made public. In short, the naacp is nothing more than a racist joke and should be outlawed.

Please witht the NAACP cracks. Look at what’s happening in the community. I am shocked by any crime that happens to any race. I do not up hold the wrong of any race or criticize the race for one bad apple. Find another card to play. I notice the domestic violence rate has gone up in the white community round here.
