Gulf State Pier Delayed

GULF SHORES, Ala. (AP) - Rough seas and high winds have delayed
completion of the Gulf State Park Pier to at least the first of
May.
The 1,520-foot, $17 million pier at Gulf Shores was expected to
be finished in March. But assistant park superintendent Trey Myers
says the contractor, LCI Inc. of Memphis, Tenn., has not been able
to work as many days as anticipated.
He says the firm has only been able to its crane barge out there
to work three or four times in the past month-and-a-half.
The pier's length will make it the longest fishing pier on the
Gulf Coast. It will be 20 feet wide and stand an average of 20 feet
off the water.

We have been going to the pier for the last 20 years to fish. I was there the moring Ivan came to shore. Sure will be glad when the pier is finished. There is almost no where else to fish without taking out a boat. The last two years have been bad. Will be there in June to check out the pier again. Hope it is finished.

I am looking forward to opening day for the new pier. This is going to be a great asset for not only Gulf Shores and Orange Beach, but for the entire region.
