This is all that's left of Samara Santos' mini-van. Investigators say the 20-year old Pensacola woman never had a chance when she lost control of the van and slammed head-on into Toni Devaney impala. It happened Tuesday at a dangerous curve on Canal Road in Gulf Shores called "Concrete Curve."

Santos died on the scene...Devaney was trapped inside her car for more than an hour. The 17-year old Gulf Shores High School soccer star suffered leg injuries and was transported to Sacred Heart in Pensacola.

"It's tough because you're talking the Dolphin family," says principal Dr. Ernie Rosado. "When one individual is hurt, we all hurt and we've got a lot of folks praying for her."

Devaney was on her way to her first soccer game of the season when the accident happened. The accident could end the senior's promising soccer career.

"She's strong," says Rosado. "She's a leader here at the school and on the soccer field."

Rosado says Devaney underwent seven hours of surgery and is in intensive care.
