GULF SHORES, Alabama - Gulf Shores has taken its share of financial hits this year; layoffs, a hiring freeze and lost revenue. Now...city hall is dealing with yet another blow...the arrest of a former worker accused of stealing city funds.

Charity Talbot, the city's former senior account clerk, was arrested and charged with theft of property and illegal possession of a credit card. Both charges are felonies. Investigators believe Talbot had been stealing money from the city for more than a month. We tried to contact city officials and Talbot's attorney, Baldwin County lawyer Don McGriff, but nobody would talk to us about the arrest.

Talbot is free on bond. A police investigator would not tell us how much money Talbot is accused of stealing but says Talbot was fired after she was arrested.

Don’t kid yourself!  I know of this same situation and the amount to be paid back ordered by the court was also $200.00 a month.  Guess how much she pays?  $18.35 once in awhile and the court does nothing about it.  What a farse.  No wonder people embezzle funds.  Why not?

Maybe she will get that judge Ginny that just let go the woman in Satsuma who spent that $100,000 that was put in her account by mistake. No jail time or anything, just repay the money at $200 a month for 42 years.Who says crime doesn’t pay? Anybody out there want to give me $100,000? I’ll pay it back at $200 a month.
