MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - An effort to remove the state's 4 cents
sales tax from groceries has failed in the Alabama House.
A vote to bring the proposed constitutional amendment up for
debate failed Tuesday. The House voted 56-42 for the bill, but that
was short of the 59 votes needed to bring it up for debate in the
104-member House.
The vote fell along party lines, with Democrats supporting it
and Republicans opposing it. Democratic Rep. Richard Laird of
Roanoke voted against the bill and was the only House member to
cross party lines.
The bill would replace the lost income by removing the current
deduction for federal income taxes paid from higher-income
taxpayers. Republicans opposed that part of the bill.

Drug testing is so stupid. It really only targets weed smokers, since everything else (Amphetamines, Barbituates, Methadone, Heroin, Valium, Cocaine, and PCP) lasts for a few hours to a WEEK tops in your system. That means, someone who smokes crack on a daily basis, can pass a test if they don’t smoke for a day or two. But if you hit a joint, you’ll test dirty for up to two months.

Thank you Thank you Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here is the reason drug testing is not done.  I really like the part that says “Drug testing welfare recipients is just one example of how our drug laws single out the poor”, well yes it does because there are no rich people getting food stamps or welfare.

I think anyone that get’s government help needs to be drug tested before getting the help. We have drug test to get a job to pay for the government help, so why shouldn’t they have one to get it. In their words “I make to much money,” but not enough to get the GOOD name brand food when JOHN DOE in front of me has steaks and Blue Belle that I’m paying for. Something needs to be done and I have a feeling nothing is going to happen soon!

Thank you KX for the info and i applaud you for going to school and working to get a better life (that is an exception) I’m talking about the lazy who think the Govt owes them?  I’ve had my id checked when i’m swiping my debit card? and no i don’t mind it.

Where I work, even if you come in and your Card says “Jennifer Crazymiddlename Smith” and your ID says “Jennifer Crazymiddlename Jones” and you say “I just got married!” we WILL NOT take your card.

To me, I think it’s funny when people get upset. We do it to protect YOUR MONEY, don’t be mad at me because you don’t think you’ll ever be a victim identity theft! (I bet your tune changes when Walmart lets someone charge $1000 on your card!)

Thanks for the info Kx. In some of the places I have shopped where I used a card to make purchases, I have still had my ID checked. I didn’t understand why as I can authorize anyone I want to use my cards.

We’re white and we get food stamps. It isn’t alot since we both work, but since we’re students it helps alot.

You don’t have to check the ID in places where the customer swipes the card. The fraud is being committed by the swiper. This means that if the employee swipes the card, they are responsible for checking ID, in places like Wal-Mart, Dollar Store, etc, the machine is set up for the CUSTOMER to swipe, and so ID does not get checked.

I have seen lots of good ole folks not represented by the naacp using food stamps. If I were a cashier I would be as color blind as possible. Bust em all if they are using government assistance illegally. Wish there was some way I could use my free time to do something to catch those misusing government handouts.
