BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Members of a Birmingham union for
workers at Bruno's and Food World stores have started preparations
to authorize a strike.
The union says they will strike if Bruno's and Food World stores
are sold to a firm that won't commit to rehiring workers under a
new contract.
Local 1657 members have already voted at several locations, and
balloting in Alabama and Florida continues this week.
Bruno's Inc. filed for bankruptcy protection in February and its
assets are scheduled to be auctioned on April 29.
The current contract between Bruno's and Local 1657 includes a
no strike/no lockout clause. One could only be authorized if the
bankruptcy judge grants Bruno's motion to void the existing
contract, and a new owner refused to negotiate a contract with the
workers.

somebody need to keep china mart, i mean wal mart in check

Bruno’s Has NEVER been the same since all the great minds of that company were killed in the plane crash. They seemed to have struggled since then. What a shame, I guess Walmart will have all the business before long.

PUBLIX PLEASE…...Mobile is in desperate need of a Publix store and there couldn’t be a better time than the present for them to capitalize on our growing grocery store dilemma.
Hopefully they are working their way west through South Alabama and if so, we will be next.
Putting that store in Fairhope before Mobile is a little strange but needless to say, we all need a new source and I believe Publix is our answer.

The smart ones that work for Brunos never joined the union. They will have a better chance of having a job if a new Company takes over.
Also, the main reason Brunos other than the union didn’t make it is internal thief. I have some inside information from a employee there.

Let them stike, all they are going to end up with either way is no job. Store goes bankrupt, no job, store sells to another chain that will not negotiate contract, no job.

Good luck with that one!  Doesn’t sound like much leverage at this particular time for a company closing stores left and right and on the verge of bankruptcy.
