Could a great white shark be lurking in Alabama waters?

That's what an Orange Beach fisherman says he and his crew encountered back on July 25th.
Chip Day took photos of the sighting about 40 miles southeast of Perdido Pass.

He says the shark appeared to be around 12 feet long when it came up to the back side of their boat. Experts say the chances of seeing a Great White in the northern region of the Gulf are very rare, but Day disagrees. "There's no fences in the Gulf and it may be the same scientists saying that, that say there's no red snapper left in the gulf,"Said Day.

According to experts, Great White Sharks have been known to visit the southern region of the gulf during winter.

Mike x51, bull sharks are crazy. They’ve been sighted up river 2000 miles from the coast & are not unknown to roam many many miles upriver in the States. What’s really bad is that they are very aggressive & can live in fresh water for two-three years. Really, wish i was making this up.

Makes you not want to swim down their for real.

:twocents:

I never really like going into the beach water in the gulf just because of jellyfish. Shark sightings are not making me want to start back up anytime soon. Sharks usually will not mess with you if you do not mess with them, but a lot of times if they are in the middle of feeding and see a human in the water they mistake it for their normal choice of diet. Sometimes when they notice that it is not what they usually eat they will back off, however that first bite can be very fatal. Other times they can be relentless and not give up. Just hope everyone is safe and no one gets hurt.

I have great respect for sharks and their home. They do not come up on land and bother me and I do not go in the water and bother them. I am afraid of what I cannot see and I can’t see what is in the water so I stay out. The pool is fine for me.

We have seen them, on different occasions, near Gravine, which its close to the bay, but definitly not up towards Mt.Vernon or some place that far

I very seriously doubt a bull shark would be in the river I go to.  About the only thing you see there are minows and once about 15 years ago a water moccasin.  Seems like it would be hard for a shark to swim up most of the river also, 20 miles up 2 foot deep water.  But you might be right, who knows…

Bull sharks are seen in the rivers all the time.

JAWS!!!!!!!!!  More of a reason for me to not want to swim in the gulf.  I think I like swimming in the rivers better anyways.  No jelly fish and WAY less people.

My friend and I went to the beach by Fort Morgan (on the left right outside the gates of the fort) on Tuesday. We were in about thigh deep water (we’re both over 5’7”) which was about 15 feet out at the time, when I saw a fin break the water by my friend. I screamed “SHARK!” and we ran back to the beach. Later we could see the fish jumping to get away from them and over the next hour we saw them swimming up and down the beach, and at one point three of them together at one time. Of course they were only 2 foot bull sharks, quite common around here, but it’s crazy to see them so close up and travelling/hunting together!
