On Easter Sunday, one Grand Bay church is still without its bell. Thieves made off with the bell on top of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church sometime during holy week. Dozens of parishioners packed the pews for the traditional Easter Sunday service. Father Warren Wall says they've received a lot of support from the surrounded community since the theft. He says he's hopeful they'll get their bell back. Some church members say service isn't the same without the traditional bell ringing.“Well, it just makes everybody feel sad about something like that happening for the Easter holidays,” says church member Louis Poiroux. The brass bell weighed more than 200 pounds.
Church members say it had been a part of their services for nearly a century. You can see Friday’s story here.
