MOBILE, Alabama - Veteran's Day tributes began before dawn in the Port City.

A sunrise flag raising cermony at Battleship Memorial Park was followed a few hours later by a parade through downtown.

In the crowd we found a woman who was wearing her husband's purple heart. "Even though he got wounded, he's here with us and that means a lot," said Francine Williams.

Alabama Governor Bob Riley, who was named Mobile's Patriot of the Year, waved to the crowd as he rode by in a military humvee.

Riley accepted the award at a luncheon at Fort Whiting Field. "There's no way I deserve it, but I did tell them I will accept it on behalf of the people of Alabama," said Riley. "We should thank a veteran, we should say a prayer for them, we should do everything we can because that really is the difference between us and the rest of the world."
