A 13-year-old boy was stabbed in the neck and chest while trying to break up a fight between a man he didn't know and the man's girlfriend.

Mobile police say 50-year-old Wilbert George got into a fight with his girlfriend at the Shell Gas Station on Virginia Street around 8 o'clock Tuesday night. When the teenager tried to break it up, police say George pulled out a knife and stabbed him.

Bleeding from the two stab wounds, the teenager ran to a house in the 900 block of Dearborn Street where someone called for help. He was taken to USA Medical Center.

Police are still looking for George.

“And I am reminded on this Holy Day of the sad story of Kitty Genovese. As you all may remember, A long time ago, almost 30 years ago, this poor soul cried out for help, time and time a gain, but no person answered her calls. Though many saw, no one so much as called the police. They all just watched as Kitty was being stabbed to death in broad daylight. They watched as her assailant walked away. Now we must all fear evil men. But there is another kind of evil which we must fear most, and that is the indifference of good men.”

although foolish as well as brave to get involved, someone, somewhere, obviously taught that young man the difference between right and wrong, a precious commodity among the youth that will eventually take care of us.

I don’t mean to take away from the fact that it was very brave for the kid to try and intervene.  But, I hope he uses more caution in the future.  These days people are killing each other in the blink of an eye.

He certainly is brave RMSEEK and nothing I have said is meant to take anything at all away from that,it’s just I hate to see these kids get hurt because of adults behaving badly.Bravery to me means going and doing something you fear to do but do anyway to help someone else in a bad situation.I don’t know if he feared doing that but I would guess so.I find it very easy to like this young man and his sense of responsibility.Have a good day Rmseek and Bamabob, enjoyed your postings and seeing things from different views. The spice of life, variety.

Is “I would call the cops” hard to understand?

I can still remember when my kids were 13 and I just can’t see me sending them out to fight with 50-year-old men.  And, I sure didn’t teach them to do such a thing.

Someone is pulling our legs with this stuff.

Just on the limited information here, it doesn’t sound like the parents “let” him get involved. It sounds like he was TAUGHT to stand up for what is right. We don’t know if he yelled at the guy, or started swinging. We don’t know that someone else wasn’t already calling the police. All we know is that one young man stood up for what is right. He put someone else first-remember the acronym JOY? Thanks for your answer Carl, and you too BB-though you did not answer what would YOU do-you,not a 13 year old. But that’s OK. The guy is a hero, like his neighbor said. I hope the lady he “rescued” will be smarter than to stick around in an abusive situation.

I would call the cops.  I would not let my 13-year-old kid get in the middle of it.

I wouldn’t hesitate to speak up if it was getting physical and then call the police, which I have in the past and i let them know who I was and that I called the police. This was a domestic situation like the one here in the report and on the side of a road.luckily it didn’t proceed any further after the man pushed the woman down on the ground and the police arrived shortly. This couple eventually split up,ABOUT 5 YEARS LATER.Takes some people a long time to learn!

Do we know “how” he tried to break it up? He could have yelled at the guy to stop, leave her alone, and it gone down from there. Speaking up and swinging fists are two different things.imo Hypothetically, if anyone on here saw someone harming another-whether it was a child, elderly person or anyone in between-what would you do? Would you tell them to stop, or turn the other way and ignore it. Just curious.

His bravery should be praised but direct intervention into the fight should have been only if it was clear the woman was in immediate danger of serious harm.A 911 call would probably have been enough to save himself and the woman from any further injury. No doubt this is a brave young man and I wouldn’t have liked to see him lost to this 50 year old turkey over a fight with his girl friend,we just don’t have enough of this kind of young people.
