MOBILE, Alabama - Mobile fire officials say a gas leak caused the evacuation of thousands of concert-goers Saturday night at the 15th annual Bayfest.

Fire officials say they received the call of a gas leak around 11:30 Saturday night on the south side of Dauphin Street around the Miller Lite stage. Officials say the leak was caused by a patron standing on a gas meter.

Mobile Police evacuated the area as a precaution. That forced many to miss part of the Ludacris show.

Fortunately, no one was injured during the incident.

I should also add that my grown children at the stage where the leak was did not know about the leak while other’s that were there had heard about the leak.  So an effective way to communcate the evacution to the crowd would have been nice as well.

It was actually a scarey incident.  I was at a different stage when I heard about the gas leak.  My cell phone had been working fine and I was keeping up with my grown children who were at the site of the gas leak.  We begin texting to try to meet up to leave downtown when suddenly the news spread through the crowd about the gas leak and then all of a sudden I could not get a call out.  For almost half an hour or more I had no way of knowing where my family was and some people were getting out while other’s where not moving at all.  I’d like to suggest to Mobile and Bayfest sponser’s to work on an better evacation plan in case of emergencies.  We also spent better than an hour trying to get out of the parking garage.  Maybe it is time to have more police directing traffic out of downtown after an event.

Good thing he didn’t light a match to see what was broken.  gulp

Guess you are right stretchymouse.lol Unfortunately, not everyone has common sense, especially if they are drunk. Oh well, to the idiot that did this-Here’s your sign!

Better communication?  Don’t stand on a gas meter, that is just common sense, no communication is needed.  They should give that concert goer a ticket for stupidity.

I am glad no one was hurt. Seems like there should have been better communication.

That was good.

That’s a good one claycity.

how ludicrous is this story

The sheer and relentless stupidity of somepeople never ceases to amaze me.
