They're ganging up on crime and plan to take back their neighborhood. A group of business and homeowners in the Lott Road area of Eight Mile are preparing to fight back. They say they're tired of the bad guys running the streets.Ray and Janet Cobb say tell us their store has been hit by criminals five times in two months. The most recent armed robbery was in June. Janet was terrifed when masked gunmen walked in and shot out their surveillance equipment. They want more police officers to patrol the area.
Prichard Police argue that they have only received 3 calls from that address since Janary and do patrols on Lott Road.
The manager of another store nearby tells us they've had 3 armed robberies and at least 9 burglaries in the past two years.
The people are getting together on Friday night to form a group to help protect the neighborhood. Prichard's Police Chief and the Community Watch Coordinator are expected to be there too.
Below is the info for the meeting.
On July 17th, 2009, business owners and residents of the Lott Road area will meet at J’s Hall at 5725 Jarret Road in Eight Mile to organize a Community Watch Program. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. and the town hall meeting will begin at 7 p.m. Seating is limited to 200.
