People living in the Aaronville community woke up Monday morning to a huge mess! Homes, buildings, sidewalks and street signs were tagged with gang graffiti.

"That's sad," says Celastine Knight. "It's pitiful, it doesn't make sense. They're trying to give these people a nice place to live and whoever's doing this is messing it up for the good people in the neighborhood."

The damage was widespread and included obscene threats against the police department. Just recently, Foley's chief of police opened a new precinct in Aaronville near the location of the graffiti tagging and vandalism.

"They hate to see this in their own backyard," says Lt. Thurston Bullock with the Foley Police Dept. "And we hate to see it, too and we're going to do what we can to solve this case."

Late Monday afternoon, police say a 15-year old boy admitted to the vandalism. The teen will be charged with criminal mischief. The boy told police he was bored and went to Wal-mart and bought several cans of spray-paint. More arrests are likely.

"We can't take the chance that he's a "wanna be" gang member," says Lt. Bullock. "Wanna-be's sometimes become "gonna-be's" and could lead them to more crime which we won't tolerate."

Having an elevator that doesn’t go all the way up to the top floor doesn’t seem to be confined to any age group or race, but the age does seem to be a contributing factor in bad decisions. Now, memory seems to develop a lot sooner than good decisions and they’ll remember the results of their bad decisions a lot better when reinforced with hard labor and sweat. grin

Always thought the Active Duty ID should allow you to buy smokes, paint, guns or booze no matter what age, old enough to die for the country but too young to enjoy those freedoms.  UNTIL I spent many years in and realized, some of the young men and women in the military really don’t need that much freedom.  They still have a lot of maturing to do.  Once read where someone wanted to pass a bill allowing ALL Active Duty Military to carry weapons on them in the US, essentially making them law enforcement officers to assist if the need arises.  Wow, what a BAD idea that would be, I have had junior people work for me that needed guidance and supervision every minute every day.  I had some 18 year olds that were as mature and responsible as the senior enlisted, but some were, let’s just say not quite there.

May I see your ID sir ?  Yes,I see you are 20 years of age and also member of our armed forces fighting for our country overseas….I can sell you this carton of Marlboros and that Remington shotgun…BUT…that can of spraypaint can be dangerous and you cant have it…

good to see you carl. missed chatting with you. staying busy. i did find the golden corral but it was too late for my free veterans meal. they were so busy sunday we went to ryans across the street! hope all is well. still working on that waygu goat but having a hard time finding reputable people to massage the goats. had a bunch of people from repton and perdido apply but dont trust them around something i might eat.

As I said in the Fairhope incident a while back on the graffiti sprayings,Catch them kids and make them scrub their handi-work off with brushes and a lot of sweat. When they sweat and have to work really hard to undo what they have done,it tends to get the message across and they remember the sweat and hard work.

i dont know but it has been against the law in the past. you used to not be able to buy airplane glue in fairhope without your parents.  i know there are bad things happening everywhere but foley and bay minette have gone to the dogs in the last twenty years.maybe the depression/recession will convince people this isnt such a great place to live and we can slow down our growth a bit and get back to enjoyng it ourselves.

Is it really illegal to sell spray paint to anyone under 21 in Mobile?  Wow! That doesn’t sound like the United States of America.

By the way, there is a lot of GOOD stuff going on in Foley. There’s bad stuff going on everywhere.

with the transient population and the overall decline of society foley has already gone to the dogs. get tough and stay tough. i still dont see a reason to be out and about past the 10 o clock news.

In mobile it is illegal to sell spray paint to anyone under 21.
