Christy Byrd Philips, a former Loxley Elementary school teacher, broke down in court when she was sentenced to ten years on drug charges.
In December 2006, Baldwin county sheriff's deputies raided her Robertsdale home, finding methamphetamine and marijuana.
She wept and pleaded for the judge not to send her to jail, and the judge did grant some leniency. 9 of then 10 years of Philips' sentence were suspended. That means she'll only serve a one-year sentence. As part of the ruling, Philips will divide her sentence between the Baldwin County jail and a drug treatment facility.
she'll also be required to pay over $3,000 in court costs and fines. After being convicted, Philips was terminated from her position teaching 6th grade math at Loxley Elementary

They state that the McGill girl has a history of arrests, and that Philips doesn’t have a history of arrests.  That means nothing to me.  Philips just hasn’t been caught for the past 15 years, and the McGill girl has.  What does that matter?  A law breaker has to pay, no matter what.  I knew someone who would drink and drive every day for over 10 years, and was arrested for DUI at a simple roadblock.  I’ve known another person who would drink a 12 pack every day and drive for over 18 years, and has never been caught.  Justice system?  Where’s the justice?  I’m comforted by the fact that God will hand down his justice - His will be done.

She was allowing this in her home, none-the-less.

UPDATE: I found the info in case anyone was wondering!

“At the time, law enforcement officers had suspected that Philips’ former roommate, Heather McGill, had been selling drugs out of the home. McGill has since pleaded guilty to drug charges and is serving three years probation, prosecutors said. Philips was immediately placed on PAID administrative leave from the school system, officials have said. “

I wonder why her home was raided to begin with? They don’t just raid your house cause you using drugs. There’s got to be more to the story.

(it’s been a long day, you guys!)

(or at least non-crimimnal)?

Working4U, are you publically annoucing that you want METH to be legal??

Yea, we have a three time DUI muderer let free to wonder the streets in Baldwin County. We have a teacher in PNS that had sex with a child and has not and will not spend one day in jail.
Now, we take an educated teacher that has not ever be in trouble in her life, has only harmed herself. Of course we give her jail time. I think it should be a crime itself to tie our taxpayed jail cells up with drug users. We need to use those tax payed jail cells to keep dangerious crimmnals off our streets. Slap the pot head on the wrist, give her community service and make her go to rehab.

STOP WASTING TAX DOLLARS TO HOUSE DRUGS USERS.

Leniency!?!?! What an outrage! This is a TEACHER…responsible for other people’s PRETEEN CHILDREN.

Was the school NOT drug testing the teachers?
