MOBILE, Ala. (AP) - Leonardo Carson, a former Auburn star whoplayed in the NFL for San Diego and Dallas, has been convicted on
federal drug charges.
The 32-year-old Carson, who was convicted by a jury in Mobile on
Thursday, faces as much as 10 years to life in prison for
conspiracy to possess and distribute cocaine and marijuana. He is
to be sentenced in November.
As an all-America quarterback his senior year at Shaw High school, Carson threw for 934 yards and seven touchdowns while rushing for 1,104 yards and 12 touchdowns. He went on to play at Auburn and was drafted by
the Chargers in 2000, but his career was marred by injuries and
run-ins with the law. He was cut by the Cowboys in 2005.
Family members said government witnesses lied and the conviction
would be appealed.
