MOBILE, Ala. (AP) - Witnesses described Shaw High School graduate Leonardo Carson as a supplier of cocaine and other drugs to dealers as federal prosecutors began their case against him.The 32-year-old fis charged with conspiracy to sell marijuana and powder and crack cocaine.
Carson's half brother, Wilbert Carson, testified on Monday that he and others sold drugs that Leonardo Carson supplied from Texas. Wilbert Carson and Kareem Abdul Cook were arrested a year ago on drug charges. Both have pleaded guilty.
Cook and two other men also testified that they sold drugs supplied by Leonardo Carson.
Carson's attorney, Arthur Madden, said during his opening statement that his client is the victim of snitches trying to cut deals with prosecutors.
As an all-America quarterback his senior year at Shaw High school, Carson threw for 934 yards and seven touchdowns while rushing for 1,104 yards and 12 touchdowns. He played for Auburn before being drafted by San Diego in 2000. Carson was cut by the Cowboys in 2005.
