The execution of a drug search warrant at a Foley home did not go as planned for police officers Wednesday morning. Investigators say after arresting 51-year old Michael Woods on drug charges, Wood's father, 77-year old Robert Woods pulled a gun mounted with laser sights and fired. Veteran police officer Randy Stallworth was hit in the leg. Chief David Wilson says his officers had no choice but to protect themselves and open fire. Robert Woods died on the scene.

"His daddy got killed today because he was selling drugs out of their house." says Wilson.

Wilson says he doesn't understand why Woods didn't listen to his officers when they ordered him to put down his gun.

"I don't see how he didn't know it was the police because of their markings and because they were yelling police, search warrant and to drop the gun," says Wilson.

Four police officers involved in the deadly shooting have been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation. The officers will undergo a psychological evaluation and counseling this week.

Michael Woods, the target of the drug investigation, has been arrested on two felony counts of marijuana distribution.

Officer Stallworth was airlifted to Baptist Hospital in Pensacola. Chief Wilson says he will be okay.

But to be fair to the good cops out there thank you. That thank doesn’t apply to the cop on death row for burning his wife to death here in Mobile nor to the state trooper on death row that killed his state trooper girl friend in Baldwin county nor any cops that are criminals.

Why are we not hearing any news about this crime? Would it be because the cops didn’t find any dope?  Would it be because one of the cops doesn’t see the situation the same as the other cops? Are they now are trying to get there ducks in line. Are the news organizations here in Mobile on the police payroll? What’s up here people this smells of a cover-up.

A similar case happened just a few years ago in Atlanta GA. An 80 + women was murdered by the police in a search warrant drug issue in her home. She shot at the cops, the cops shot her dead and after an investigation two of the police were actually convicted of homicide.

The F.B.I. should have to investigate this because cops are notorious for kicking doors down without giving notice. And the warrant was for the son not the old man which means the old man was defending his home and his wife. With all the home invasions going on nowadays I don’t know that this man was wrong for coming out of the room with a gun he most likely heard his wife screaming. No if the cops want to shoot people let them shoot the home invaders the robbers and the crack dealers and crystal meth dealers

I see wkrg likes to censor the comments posted but thats ok because I learned years ago not to be intimidated. I copy and paste all my blogs to word. And heres a look. It’s disgusting that the cops are murdering innocent people over pot and getting away with it. Wake up Foley police there are real criminals out there. I believe that these cops involved in this murder should be fully investigated by the feds and tested for drug use because it sounds to me like this may have been a drug deal gone sour.

Are there any elections coming up in Foley?

Whoever orchestrated this thing must of thought they would have a simple bust and haul away a ton of weed for the cameras.  They didn’t count on a startled old man coming out of his bedroom with a gun.

What a mess!

so how much is this going to cost us in baldwin county? get out your checkbooks were gonna spend some money. a misdeameanor crime does not justify the level of police response in this case. one ounce of marijuana was found at the house, tweleve officers, dogs, and support personnel were involved. they entered the house with guns drawn, made a lot of noise. a 77 year old hard of hearing nearly blind man was awoken from his bed and a bunch of men with guns were in his house. they were not clearly marked wearing those paramilitary uniforms these task force guys like to sport. he acted to defend his home and his wife. as magistrate signed a rubber stamp warrant the police requested. its wasnt like on tv when they execute a search warrant. watch the video, talk to the neighbors and decide for yourself, the police overreacted and must be held accountable financialy and criminaly for thier actions. one ounce of marijuana is a misdeameanor possession, and certainly not grounds for this

Well said. Thank you to the men and women in blue.

I couldn’t agree more! Most every police officer should have the thanks of the public for the job they do every day in and day out,Under paid and under appreciated. The on the spot decisions they make would be hard on anyone and they take their toll on them, but it seems there should have been a better outcome to this event and better info on the target house.A perfect world we will never have,so the police have to work with what they have.

I will second that and totally agree.
